Last week, Access the Dales had the pleasure of hosting a group of children and their families from SELFA, a wonderful charity dedicated to supporting children and young people in Skipton and Craven. SELFA’s mission is to create a community where every child is celebrated and feels a sense of belonging, and we were thrilled to contribute to that goal with a special day at Woodend Farm, in the Forest of Bowland.
The day was filled with excitement and adventure as the children got the chance to experience life on the farm. Their eyes lit up with joy as they led the Alpacas and sheep on walks around the farm, getting up close and personal with these gentle animals. Feeding the farm animals was another highlight, with the children eagerly offering food to their new furry friends.
As the morning gave way to the afternoon, we gathered around to build a campfire—a perfect setting for the children to make s’mores. The sight of gooey marshmallows melting between chocolate and biscuits brought smiles all around.
Nature provided even more fun as the children splashed and played in the river, their laughter echoing through the peaceful surroundings. For those who sought a bit of quiet, the tipi tent offered a cosy retreat, where they could relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the farm.
We owe a huge thanks to Alison for hosting this memorable day and for providing a delicious lunch that refuelled our hungry explorers. Her hospitality made the day even more special for everyone involved.
At Access the Dales, we strive to create a space where children and young people can connect with nature, animals, and each other in a supportive environment. This event was an excellent example of inclusion and Access for All.

We look forward to many more days like this, where every child can feel celebrated and know they belong.
