It was a beautiful day for our first social walk of 2023, and Access the Dales was delighted to welcome familiar friends and first-time visitors at our newest wheelchair hub at Richmond Swimming Pool. As we set off, we watched with admiration as a lady was able to enjoy the ride on the Mobility scooter, and the joy it brought her was evident. It was a great reminder of how accessible the walk was, and it was wonderful to see our new visitors so impressed with the route and the views. We enjoyed the lovely scenery of Easby Abbey, and we were all taken aback by the breath-taking views of the River Swale and the ruin of the Abbey.
The weather was kind to us, and we even had sunshine in the early afternoon.
At the church there was an exhibition of wedding dresses through the era and it was lovely to look at the displays whilst also taking in the beauty of the church.
It was lovely to see lots of families out enjoying the warm weather. There was one family that were having a teddy bear’s picnic. It looked great fun!
On our return, we decided to go into The Station for refreshments.
Inside, we were welcomed by a warm atmosphere and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. We took a seat and decided to indulge in one of the cafe's freshly made cakes, which were a delight. The cake was moist and sweet and the coffee was smooth and aromatic. We could not help but smile and enjoy the moment. We spent some time talking and catching up on our recent adventures, and the time just seemed to fly by. We eventually finished our coffee and cake and said our goodbye's, feeling refreshed and content after our break in The Station.
We were so happy to have had the opportunity to share this experience with everyone, and we look forward to our next social walk which is next Sunday 23rd July at Grimwith Reservoir.
